Sally’s Apizza has been the pizza hub in Connecticut for 85 years, serving up hand-crafted, authentic New Haven pizza in custom-designed ovens since 1938.

Local pizza lovers, buckle up. The iconic Sally’s Apizza is crossing the border and headed for not one, but two new locations in Massachusetts.

History of Sally’s Apizza

The world has Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio to thank for this iconic pizza shop. Founded in New Haven, Connecticut, Sally’s Apizza made a name for itself through Sal’s recipes. The shop’s distinctive tomato sauce and “oven-kissed," charred crust has been attracting pizza fans for decades. Me included.

A Stop at Sally’s Is Non Negotiable

My husband is from Brooklyn, and in his eyes, Brooklyn reigned supreme when it came to pizza.

Until we went to Sally’s.

On our trip home to Rhode Island, we stopped at Sally’s in New Haven and patiently waited in line for what felt like hours. We cozied up in a booth, and when a sheet pan of pizza hit the table, my husband and I knew that stopping by was an excellent choice.

From the crunch to the flavor, it’s top-notch, and the iconic pizza joint is ready to branch out.

Sally's Apizza is Coming to Massachusetts

On Thursday, December 14, Sally’s Apizza will open its first location in Massachusetts in Woburn Village, according to The Boston Globe.

For Rhode Islanders, there is hope. Providence, Rhode Island is listed on the company’s target markets.

Rhode Island and Massachusetts are famous for excellent food. It’s only fitting that the best pizza finds a home here, too.

The Best of South Shore Bar Pizza

There's pizza, and then there's South Shore Bar Pizza. Birthed in Brockton (and to this writer, perfected in Randolph – Lynwood Café is the true G.O.A.T.), it must meet certain qualifications to be considered "SSBP," which include: it's a 10-inch pie; it has a thin, cracker-like crust with minimal "flop;" the cheese is a blend that features more cheddar than mozzarella; and bonus points if you take it home between two carboard-type plates wrapped in flat brown paper bag. They also usually come with "laced" or "burnt" edges (terminology depends on where you are ordering), which is when the sauce and cheese are extended all the way to the edge of the pan, creating a crispy, flavorful coating to the crust. We reached out to the hugely popular South Shore Bar Pizza Social Club Facebook group to ask the experts to share the best of the best (in no particular order).
