ROCHESTER — A three-year odyssey came to a fruitless end Wednesday night in the effort to improve Old Rochester Regional High School.

Rochester voters voted down the "Restore ORR" effort by a final tally of 689-575, after the initiative had already passed by ballot in both Marion and Mattapoisett.

The quest to approve the project originally began in 2015, and would have secured new sound and lighting for the Old Rochester Regional High School auditorium, and new athletic facilities as well.

First, all three towns overwhelmingly passed the project in separate town meetings this past spring, with the next step for it to be put on a ballot in each town. Both Mattapoisett and Marion had previously voted to approve the $2 million project.
