Are you one of those moms that feels guilty about leaving your children and going to work?  Well if you are, don’t feel so bad because research says you’re actually doing your kids a favor.New research shows that there are significant benefits for children with mothers who work outside of the home.  The study found that "daughters of working mothers completed more years of education, were more likely to be employed and in supervisory roles, and earned higher incomes," Claire Cain Miller reports in The New York Times.

Daughters of working mothers also earned 23% more than their counterparts raised by stay at home mothers.

It was found that mothers didn't effect the career of their sons as significantly as their daughters, but they did influence their attitudes on household work. Men raised by working mothers spent more time on household chores and childcare.

There isn't a clear cause and effect as to why the statistics show that these children benefit, but some suggest that working mothers lead by example.

"Role modeling is a way of signaling what's appropriate in terms of how you behave, what you do, the activities you engage in, and what you believe,” says Harvard Business School professor Kathleen L. McGinn.
