
Roger Williams Zoo Celebrates First-Ever Red Panda Births
Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island is welcoming two new residents to its zoo family.

The red panda exhibit now has new life as first-time parents Zan and Kendji welcomed twins (one male and one female) into the world on July 4.

Why Red Panda Births Matter
The birth is a momentous occasion, making history as the first successful birth of red panda kits in the zoo’s history.
Each red panda that enters the world holds great significance. With less than 10,000 red pandas remaining in the wild, the species is officially endangered.

In a statement, Roger Williams Park Zoo said that "our red pandas are a part of a Species Survival Plan (SSP), which ensures the continued existence of at-risk wildlife by safeguarding their genetic diversity."
How the Panda Cubs Are Growing
Though they aren't available for public viewing yet, the baby red pandas are growing and thriving.

Weighing in at a whopping half-pound at one week, the twins are spending their time snuggling up with mom Zan as they continue to bond.
