Rare Sesame Street Elephant Event Coming to Rhode Island

Roger Williams Park Zoo is making the most of the final year with its three female African elephants.

Alice, Ginny and Kate are scheduled to be relocated to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee in late 2027, but before they go, the zoo has a first-of-its-kind event planned with them on Saturday, September 26.

Generations of kids have grown up with Sesame Street and its beloved fuzzy characters, just as generations of zoo guests have grown up with Alice, Ginny and Kate. Now, kids and parents alike can watch the new Sesame Street African elephant special, then step outside and see a trio of African elephants in real life.

But you won't have to wait until October to see it.

What to Expect at Roger Williams Park Zoo

Roger Williams Park Zoo guests can catch an advanced screening throughout the day on September 26. The screening is included with zoo admission, with showings at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Guests can also take part in elephant-themed activities throughout the day.

Screening availability is first-come, first-served.

And while the Sesame Street special is a fun reason to visit the zoo, the magic really happens when the screening ends. That's when you can walk outside to visit Alice, Ginny and Kate and bring the African safari to life right before your child's eyes.

With the trio's move to Tennessee getting closer, it's events like this that make it even more meaningful to spend time with Alice, Ginny and Kate while they're still in Rhode Island.
