Brrr! There's a group of women prepared to be "freezin' for a reason" and it's a great way for the community to give back and get involved.

A team from the Randolph AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is gearing up to take an icy dip for a great cause.

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, members will brave the frigid waters at the Natick Passion Plunge to support the Special Olympics of Massachusetts.

The event, held at AMVETS Post 79 in Natick (79 Superior Dr.), kicks off with registration at 10:00 AM followed by the plunge at noon. Plenty of on-site parking is available for participants and spectators.

Who’s Taking the Plunge?

Kelly Dennis, president of the Randolph AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, is leading the charge. The Auxiliary is made up of women who are relatives of veterans and work together to support both veterans and the community.

Among the plungers is Mandy Dias, this year’s Department of Massachusetts AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary State President. A Fall River native, Dias has lived on the SouthCoast her entire life and is passionate about giving back.

Freezing for a Cause

The Natick Passion Plunge is a polar plunge-style event that raises funds for the Special Olympics of Massachusetts, which provides inclusive sports opportunities for more than 19,000 athletes and over 10,000 volunteers across the state.

“I believe that sports are the gateway to building confidence, lifelong friendships, and becoming leaders in the community,” Dennis said. “I'm asking for your donation because it will fund inclusive experiences... in hopes of more inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities this year and beyond.”

The team has set a fundraising goal of $500 and has already raised over $100.

How to Support

Donations are still being accepted to help the Randolph team reach their goal. Whether you donate or simply come out to cheer them on, your support makes a difference.

For those looking to witness the plunge firsthand, bundle up and head to AMVETS Post 79 in Natick on February 8th—it’s bound to be a chillingly good time for an even better cause.
