New England’s Largest Chandelier Could Be Yours As It Hits Auction Block
RANDOLPH (WBSM) — New England’s largest chandelier, which has illuminated a well-known function hall for decades, is on the auction block.
Lombardo’s in Randolph, Massachusetts has been the sight of thousands of weddings, proms, conventions and other social gatherings. The Boston Celtics held their season tip-off dinners there for many years as well.
It was a destination point for generations, even before it came under the Lombardo’s name in 1983; my parents, graduates of Randolph High, had their proms there, and a couple of decades later I had mine there as well.
Right off the highway, it has been visible to anyone traveling on Interstate 93 or headed up Route 28 in Randolph into the Blue Hills.
Anyone who visited Lombardo’s had to take a photo in front of its iconic, massive chandelier. There is an all-glass rotunda on the side of the building with a spiral staircase and the chandelier hanging in the center.
The chandelier is 23 feet high and 18 feet wide and features 10,000 crystals and 950 bulbs.
It underwent a deep cleaning in 2022, and back in 2012 was rewired and converted to LED bulbs.
The auction is live now and will end Thursday, February 15 at 10 a.m. The opening bid is $5,000 and as of this writing, there are no bids.
The chandelier is being auctioned off because the Lombardo family sold the 71,500-square-foot function facility last year to a real estate investment and development company.
