Popular Rhode Island Murder Podcast Becoming New TV Show
If you love watching Only Murders in the Building, then a new series based on a local murder podcast could be your next "must watch" show.
A Rhode Island murder podcast about a cold case in East Providence is getting turned into a television series that Deadline.com says will star and be executive produced by Chloë Grace Moretz.
Though the show is in the very early stages of adaptation, the case it will be based on has been unraveling for over 30 years.
Back in 1993, Lauren Malloy lost her mother to what she believed at the time was a heart condition.
Much later in life, Lauren learned her mother's death was actually an unsolved murder and she began a personal journey to discover the truth about what happened.
She eventually started her ten-part podcast, My Mom's Murder, taking listeners through the very strange details of her mother's death.

Seems back in 1993 Lori Lee Malloy's death was ruled "natural" after she was found on the floor of her Waterman Avenue apartment bathroom. The medical examiner attributed the death to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, due to Molloy’s history of cocaine use even though the police report noted some "suspicious conditions."
Among those conditions were the fact that Lori was found nude, with slices of bread around her body. She also had hair wrapped around her left hand and one foot, tufts of her hair were found throughout the apartment, the bathroom faucet was still running and the refrigerator in the kitchen had been unplugged, but was still full of food.
All very odd indeed.
The case made for a fascinating podcast and by 2022 Lauren Malloy was able to get her mother's body exhumed and new testing approved to help determine what truly happened to Lori Lee all those years ago.

Although the case is still unsolved, the new attention the case will receive from this television series may just help Lauren Malloy finally learn the truth about her mother's death.
