Driving down East Boulevard in Onset, you can’t help but notice the very unique vehicle sitting in the yard of one particular house.

It’s known as a surrey, a special type of bicycle – technically a quadricycle – that allows for multiple passengers to have bench seating while driving down the road.

This blue-barred wonder features a bright yellow top and black seats with a faded license plate on the front that reads “Doom Bugy,” (sic) which also is marked with “The Haunted Mansion” logo and the words “Magic Kingdom” – which makes sense, because this surrey is straight out of Disney World.

The bike is one of the amenities reserved for those who rent out the property on which it sits.

It’s known as the Onset Beach Compound, and it’s rented out through a company called #StayHere. There are three houses within the compound: the three-bedroom Flamingo House, and then the Crab House and Mermaid House, each with two bedrooms.

When you rent out the homes, #StayHere includes a number of amenities such as electric bikes, paddle boats, kayaks, use of the hot tub and use of the fire pit.

It’s the surrey bike, though, that catches people’s attention. People who have been to Disney World are familiar with the sight of a surrey, but for others, it’s something they’ve never seen before – even though the surrey was invented around 1850. Although you can buy one for around $3,000-$4,000, they’re not commonly seen around the SouthCoast.

We spoke to two young ladies who work for the property who told us this surrey did come from Disney World; #StayHere purchased it from a person in New York, who purchased it directly from Disney.

Can you picture yourself and three friends cruising down Onset Avenue in this four-wheeled wonder, seeing the sights while pedaling along?

In addition to the #StayHere lodging, #PlayHere offers unique Onset experiences such as jet ski tours, boat tours and a canal cruise. You can also rent the property hourly for photo shoots.
