New restaurants are opening all the time across the SouthCoast. Many of them lately seem to be chicken spots.

From Yas Chicken opening in Providence to the new Korean-style chicken spot in New Bedford, Southern New Englanders clearly enjoy their chicken.

Soon there will be yet another new chicken restaurant arriving in Seekonk.

Back in November we first learned that Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers would be opening their second Massachusetts location close to the SouthCoast. Now we have more details about this highly anticipated chain restaurant opening.

News that Raising Cane would expand into Johnston, Rhode Island, and Seekonk got people talking last fall. Now we know precisely where the Seekonk spot will be.

According to the minutes from the Seekonk Planning Board, Raising Cane's will do construction on the former Pier 1 Imports building at 175 Highland Ave.

Their plan calls for adding a two-lane drive-thru to the building and extensive landscaping around the property. Bohler Engineering is working on the construction. Employees present told board members that landscaping is a very important part of Raising Cane's.

Chicken is also important. The company prides itself on using fresh ingredients to provide the "highest quality chicken finger meals everywhere."

We are one step closer to trying those chicken fingers closer to home, yet construction timelines are pretty vague.

The Raising Cane's website lists 8 new restaurant openings between now and July 18, 2023, but none of them are Seekonk or Johnston.
