New Bedford 2025 Yard Waste Collection Dates and Guidelines
As the weather warms up and people are itching to tidy up their yards, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about how to properly dispose of grass clippings, leaves and other yard waste.
Spring is almost here, and it’s not just the flowers that are starting to bloom. Your lawn is probably due for its first cut.
Typically, folks start mowing around late March or early April, as the grass begins to grow back. Before you toss your yard waste, though, remember: New Bedford has specific guidelines to make sure everything gets collected properly.

Yard Waste Collection starts Monday, April 7 and runs through Friday, December 19. This collection will take place the day after your regular trash pick-up. When it comes to disposing of your yard waste, make sure you use store-bought barrels or biodegradable leaf bags.
City-issued trash and recycling carts are off-limits for yard waste.
For larger items like brush and branches, the collection starts a bit later: Wednesday, April 30, through Wednesday, November 26. This collection is by appointment only, so be sure to call (617) 569-1718, ext. 1 to schedule a pick-up.
Of course, if you’re a DIY-er and prefer to handle your yard waste yourself, you can drop it off at the Recycling Center at 1103 Shawmut Avenue during normal business hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
With warmer days ahead, it’s a sign that your yard – and your garden for the next growing season – are ready for a fresh start. Just be sure to follow these simple rules to keep things clean and green.
