A strange and terrifying trend is bubbling up on the SouthCoast and it's making me uneasy.

Remember the beheaded purple dinosaur in Dartmouth? Well, this story gives decapitated dino vibes, except it involves a plastic owl instead.

A fake owl sitting in the alleyway behind New Bedford's Rose Alley Alehouse and Cork has been beheaded not once but twice. For the longest time, it was headless ... until this month, when someone placed a baby doll's head on the body.

I asked Rose Alley if it had anything to do with it. The bar denied involvement. I asked bartender Michelle Pimental if she had any idea who created this creepy being and that's when she pointed to the owl head on the liquor shelf.

She claimed someone found the owl head in the alleyway years ago and brought it inside the bar. A newer head eventually went on the owl but then about six or seven months ago, that head, too, disappeared.

That's when someone finally stepped up and added to the bird's body with the head of a baby doll.

So, questions remain.

That said, the next time you're inside Rose Alley, take a peek behind the bar. There, the owl's original head awaits your gaze.
