New Bedford Police Officers Stop to Help Stranded Driver Change Flat Tire

Not every act of public service begins with a 911 call.

Earlier Tuesday, July 21, while patrolling New Bedford's North End, Officers Helder Silva and Noah Brum of the New Bedford Police Department spotted a motorist stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire. Rather than simply stopping to check on the driver, the officers rolled up their sleeves and got to work.

Together they helped change the tire so the driver could safely continue on their way. These are the moments and reminders that police work extends far beyond responding to emergencies or investigating crimes.

A Simple Act That Made a Big Difference

In a Facebook post, New Bedford Police praised Silva and Brum for their professionalism, compassion and willingness to serve the community in ways both big and small. While changing a flat tire may seem like a simple gesture, it likely turned what could have been a stressful day into one with a much happier ending for the stranded driver.

They may not always make the evening news, but they help strengthen the relationship between officers and the communities they serve.
