What a difference a year makes!

As some of you know, back in November, my family decided to power our house using solar energy from Isaksen Solar.

Almost immediately, we began seeing results as we starting manufacturing energy. Granted, we launched the project during some of the shortest days of the entire year, so our results were small, yet significant with all things considered.

We were really looking forward to those long, sun-filled summer days where we'd begin producing energy early in the morning and continue until nearly eight o'clock at night.

With those long days, however, comes massive energy use in the Rock house. We have a pool pump which runs 10-12 hours a day. I have a wife with a low tolerance for heat and a love for powering up air conditioners. I have kids who spend summer nights competing with their friends on Xbox. Our family uses a lot of energy.

I was curious about how my July bill from Eversource would look. I was thinking that it would be a great barometer to measure how much solar energy we produce vs. our energy consumption.

Well, the results are in, and I am so excited to report that it seems we have achieved net-zero. Even during our highest consumption months, our solar panel system is still creating more energy than my family is using.

I can't describe how satisfying it is to turn the tables. Instead of owing Eversource $400-$500 every month this summer, it is Eversource that is owing me! This time last year, I would never have thought that was possible.

We have Isaksen Solar in Fall River to thank. If you are considering going solar, give them a call. Solar energy doesn't work for every family, but it worked for ours. Isaksen will visit your home and see if you are a match.
