A Massachusetts Farm Just Got a Massive Grant to Build a Solar Array

Frogfoot Farm in Wareham just received a huge grant from the state of Massachusetts. The Healey-Driscoll Administration presented the farm with a $135,000 grant to build a solar array on the property. These solar trackers follow the sun to ensure maximum energy production.

Powering Sustainable Food Relief on the SouthCoast

The farm works exclusively with local food pantries and food relief organizations to provide nutritious produce throughout the SouthCoast. Just last year, Frogfoot Farm produced over 13,000 pounds of fresh produce, providing more than 120,000 servings of healthy food for their community.

Cutting Costs to Feed More Neighbors

"This investment is about much more than solar power. It's about strengthening our ability to nourish our communities for years to come," Marion Institute Executive Director Liz Wiley said. "Reliable, renewable energy allows us to operate Frogfoot Farm more sustainably, reduce operating costs, and reinvest those resources into growing even more fresh, healthy food for our neighbors."

The solar array is expected to save Frogfoot Farm roughly $5,000 annually in energy costs.

A Broader Green Energy Push Across Massachusetts

“We are thrilled to award grants to this latest group of nonprofit organizations and add more than 600 kW of new solar energy to Massachusetts,” Energy Resources Commissioner Elizabeth Mahony said. “Together, these organizations will pay almost $275,000 less in electricity costs each year, providing more financial resources for their important missions. The solar systems LISSP enables benefit communities by helping local organizations reach more people, and with cleaner air and improved public health.”
