Many fans are headed to Gillette Stadium this Saturday to help send off the team as they travel for their 12th appearance in the Super Bowl. Some of those fans might even have a say in whether or not Maynard gets to change their name.
A Super Bowl Sunday Name Change? Here’s the Plan
The Massachusetts town of about 10,000 residents is looking to formally change their entire name for a single day in support of the Patriots when they take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX.
What the One-Day Name Change Would Mean
If the measure passes with the town select board on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, then the town will become "MAYEnard" on February 8, 2026. In a press release about the planned change, the town said,
On Sunday, Feb. 8, as the New England Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks for Super Bowl LX, there will be zero viewers watching the game from the Town of Maynard. Instead, pending the approval of the Select Board on Tuesday, residents, restaurant patrons, guests, and visitors will be watching from the Town of MAYEnard.
