For the past 14 years, I’ve scoured Martha’s Vineyard in search of the island’s most delicious eats.

Obviously, summertime offers more options than the off-season, but my mission has remained the same: to try every single restaurant the Vineyard has to offer.

From fresh seafood caught off the outer banks of Chilmark to the fine dining of Edgartown and the pub fare and quick bites of Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, each spot has its own unique style and culinary flair.

But during a recent visit, one place stood out in a way I never expected.

While my wife and I were on our babymoon, I convinced her to check out a brewery called Offshore Ale Company that had been on my bucket list for years. This place has been brewing and serving up craft beers since 1997, and I was long overdue for a visit. The plan was simple: order some fish and chips, split a bowl of chowder, and call it a day.

That plan changed the second I laid eyes on the menu.

Under the ‘Brick Oven Pizzas’ section, one word caught my attention: Potato.

Now, I don’t know how else to say this, but I found a place serving mashed potato pizza, and I was all in.

This carb-loaded masterpiece featured a garlic oil base, a blend of cheddar and jack cheese, fluffy savory mashed potatoes, crispy bacon, and scallions, served with a side of sour cream. I opted for a cauliflower crust (gluten-free option) for an extra $3.50, and as good as it was, I can only imagine how phenomenal the house-made regular crust must be.

(Pro-Tip: Ask for an extra side of sour cream. Even if it's extra, you'll thank me later.)

At $25, this pizza was worth every bite and easily shareable.

Pair it with either a Lazy Frog IPA or their popular Islander Double IPA (or both, like I did), and you’ve got a match made in beer-and-carb heaven.

In a nutshell—if you’re a fan of potato skins (I know Michael Rock is the king of that appetizer), you’ll fall in love with this pizza. So, if you ever find yourself in Oak Bluffs, do yourself a favor and stop by for lunch or dinner. But be warned—this place gets busy, so plan accordingly.

Cheers!

The Best of South Shore Bar Pizza

There's pizza, and then there's South Shore Bar Pizza. Birthed in Brockton (and to this writer, perfected in Randolph – Lynwood Café is the true G.O.A.T.), it must meet certain qualifications to be considered "SSBP," which include: it's a 10-inch pie; it has a thin, cracker-like crust with minimal "flop;" the cheese is a blend that features more cheddar than mozzarella; and bonus points if you take it home between two carboard-type plates wrapped in flat brown paper bag. They also usually come with "laced" or "burnt" edges (terminology depends on where you are ordering), which is when the sauce and cheese are extended all the way to the edge of the pan, creating a crispy, flavorful coating to the crust. We reached out to the hugely popular South Shore Bar Pizza Social Club Facebook group to ask the experts to share the best of the best (in no particular order).
