Market Basket is officially in the beer game.

The affordable grocery company just announced the launch of its very own MB-branded light lager, brewed by Zero Gravity Beer in Burlington, Vermont and being sold in select Market Basket locations.

Here’s where things get interesting.

While this new “More For Your Dollar” Light Lager is available in certain stores in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire, the SouthCoast stores in New Bedford and Fall River are not among them.

In fact, when I called around locally, I got the same response: "This Market Basket doesn't sell beer or wine at all." So even if the chain has beer now, we’re not cracking a can from our neighborhood aisles anytime soon.

Where Can You Actually Find It?

According to Market Basket, the 12-pack of cans goes for $12.99 (plus bottle deposit where required), and it’s being stocked in MB Spirits and MB Beer & Wine locations in Massachusetts, plus all three Maine stores, and 33 stores across New Hampshire.

Zero Gravity is no joke; they’re a legit, respected brewery. So the partnership is actually kind of cool, especially seeing that retro-throwback can design with Market Basket’s iconic colors.

Will It Ever Reach Our Local Market Baskets?

Not yet, and there’s no word on whether that’ll ever change.

You've got to admit, there’s something hysterically Massachusetts about Market Basket, of all places, rolling out a house beer. I mean, MB already has its own peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, pasta, pancake syrup – why not beer?

For now, though, SouthCoast folks will need to travel a little north to find it.

If there was ever a phrase that sums up this entire story perfectly, it’s the one printed right on the can:

"More for your dollar."

Just not here. Yet.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
