Every Sunday, my wife and I brave the chaos of Market Basket. It's not our ideal grocery trip, but it's the only time we can make it happen.

Our mission is simple: get in and get out as fast as humanly possible – and if we can avoid bumping into anyone we know along the way (mostly for my sake), even better.

Once we’re inside, we try to stick together, except when we split up to cover more ground. One of my must-have items on the list is chicken salad, but it has to be the Market Basket brand. Not only is it my favorite, but it's also way more affordable than the name-brand options. It's got just the right balance of mayonnaise, with not too much celery.

However, there’s something that bugs me every time I swing by the deli section to grab my container.

When it comes to the potato salad, coleslaw and even the macaroni salad, Market Basket offers two sizes: small and large. Chicken salad, however, is only available in one size: small.

Now, I can burn through that small container in about a day and a half, while the larger size would be perfect. So naturally, I asked the deli department why they don’t offer a two-pound option.

“That’s headquarters’ decision. We don’t have any say on that," I was told.

On the bright side, I did learn that you can pre-order a four-pound party platter in a giant salad bowl for special occasions – or, you know, for someone like me who could easily devour a massive amount of Market Basket chicken salad in one sitting.

Best Market Basket Customer Services Desk Displays of 2023

Another season of customer service desk decorating is underway at Market Basket locations across New England. Thanks to the People of Market Basket Facebook page, we don't have to travel to every state to see what employees came up with this year.
