At some point in your life you have likely heard the name Wes' Rib House. The long-standing Providence barbecue restaurant has been a staple in the Olneyville section of the city for 50 years, serving award-winning food to a wide range of customers.

Sadly, since the fall, those customers have had to get their barbecue somewhere else. That is about to change.

After months of renovations, Providence's oldest rib joint is ready to reopen its doors with authentic Southern BBQ and New England rock and roll.

Jan. 11-14, Wes' Rib House is opening for the first time since the summer with what it's calling a "sneak peek weekend."

The hours will be different and the restaurant with look different, but the delicious barbecue will be just the same: slow-cooked over a wood-fire pit.

Fans of this legendary local restaurant have been waiting months for this announcement and are hoping for the Wes' they remember to emerge from the remodel.

Since its founding in 1973 by namesake Wes, a former Missouri truck driver, the rib house was known for its amazing, authentic Southern food.

Though under new ownership for the last few years, the hope after the latest remodel is to bring back the beloved barbecue folks remember from the restaurant's heyday.

Fans can find out for themselves in just a few days. Plus, those who enjoy live music with their barbecue can stop in Saturday night when the Highwater Haulers are scheduled to perform.

Starting Jan. 18, Wes' will be completely reopened for regular hours.
