LAKEVILLE (WBSM) — A man who was recovered from a pond in Lakeville Saturday afternoon did not survive.

The man, said to be in his 60s, went missing in Long Pond during the Lakeville Eagles Club’s “Pond-a-Palooza” event.

According to Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins, the department responded along with the Lakeville Fire Department to assist Massachusetts Environmental Police in the search.

Police arrived at 4:58 p.m. and Lakeville’s dive team and police boat began assisting in the search. The man was located at 5:43 p.m. and Lakeville Fire Department medics attempted life-saving measures.

However, the man was pronounced deceased at a local hospital shortly after arrival, Perkins said.

The man’s identity has not been released at this time. Perkins said his death is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
