Yesterday, Jordan’s Furniture President/CEO Eliot Tatelman announced that he would be closing all of his Jordan's locations on Monday, September 26th at 8pm to allow for employees to watch the first Presidential Debate.

The first debate, which starts at 9pm, is the first between candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Regarding the early closing of his stores, Tatelman went on say

This is a very important election for our families, for our children and for future generations. By watching the debate live, it will give people the opportunity to make an educated decision and cast a responsible vote, so we are closing all Jordan’s Furniture stores at 8pm next Monday.

In  press release sent out on September 20th, he also notes that he hopes other business owners will choose to do the same.

I also hope that other companies and retailers consider closing and allowing their staff to do the same thing…go home and watch this important event on live TV with their loved ones. The world is changing. It is important that voters know who and what they are voting for by educating themselves. The upcoming debate will provide the political views and the personal characteristics of both candidates.

Jordan’s Furniture employs over 1,400 people across their 6 retail stores and warehouse in Taunton.
