Five Must-Try SouthCoast Meals With Bold and Mouthwatering Flavor
As we wrap up another successful and delicious restaurant week here at Fun 107, the only problem I'm dealing with is how tight my pants are fitting. I have no regrets.
Michael and Maddie bounced around between New Bedford, Dartmouth, Westport and Fall River this week to indulge in some of the best food on the SouthCoast. It was a feast each time as appetizers and entrees filled the table and our bellies.
From sweet to savory, each bite was just about better than the last and I'm here to share with you the best of the best from each restaurant to help you decide what to order when you get the chance.
Mimi's Kitchen: The Portuguese Egg Benny
130 Nauset St., New Bedford
When it comes to "good-mood food," Mimi's Kitchen has been and always will be my go-to, especially when it comes to a hearty home-cooked breakfast. It was a tough decision, but from their stuffed French toast to their refreshing açaí bowls, the winner for me was clear with Mimi's Portuguese Eggs Benny. It starts with a grilled Portuguese cheese roll and is layered with a juicy linguica patty and a perfectly poached egg, and then is smothered in a zesty Portuguese Mozambique hollandaise sauce. The home fries on the side were a bonus.
Lolly's Cafe: Portuguese Breakfast Burrito
6 Sheridan St., Dartmouth
Day Two of restaurant week and I was already feeling the jeans getting tighter. When it comes to a good burrito, owners Michael and Jack are professionals. Allow me to present to you their Portuguese Breakfast Burrito. It's packed with sliced chourico, cheese, eggs, home fries and Lolly's signature boom-boom sauce. The wrap is grilled to perfection and gives a nice crunch as your teeth sink into this tasty creation.
Bootleg BBQ Westport: The Triple Smash Burger with Bacon
778 Main Road, Westport
Ladies and gentlemen, I have found the mother of all burgers on the SouthCoast. Bootleg BBQ is Westport's hidden gem for authentic smoked BBQ, but don't sleep on the smash burgers. Each patty is seasoned and blended with three types of chuck, including brisket, to give it its legendary flavor. Stacked with fresh-cut lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and housemade bacon, this burger is a mouthful and pairs perfectly with Bootleg's savory house-cut fries. Pro-tip: Add some of Fred's famous BBQ sauce for flavor, but beware because you'll need a few extra napkins for this bad boy.
Scotties Pub: Roadhouse Steak Tips
202 Pleasant St., Fall River
Get ready to dive into 12 ounces of Scotties marinated tender beef tips that will take your tastebuds on a magical journey. These "melt-in-your-mouth" tips are grilled to order and are by far the best in the city. There's no need for a knife with these tasty delights, as each bite is like butter. Scotties soaks its steak tips in their signature marinade so they explode with flavor. Try these on a Caesar salad and thank me later.
Farm & Coast Market: Porky's Mornin' Pie
7 Bridge St., South Dartmouth
We wrapped up the tour at Farm & Coast in gorgeous Padanaram Village. F&C's pizza is a winner. Nearly new to the menu is a hot take on breakfast pizza. Introducing Porky's Mornin' Pie, a bold and tasty spread over a homemade crust. Topped with eggs, linguica, bacon, eggs and veggies, it's the perfect size for breakfast. Not too much, not too little, just the right amount of food. Bury your fork into that egg and allow the yolk to smother the pizza toppings for a sensational flavor that will have you satisfied with each bite that you take. Highly recommended.
