Gyms along the SouthCoast can now open with protocols and procedures in place to keep you safe. Each gym is tackling the new safety protocols a little differently, so we called up a few to see what we can expect getting back to it.

Most gyms are opening with the same hours they had previously. Many are still preparing their fitness centers to ensure they have everything they need to follow the CDC guidelines. These guidelines include limited capacity, proper equipment spacing and face coverings except during strenuous cardio workouts.

We did get a hold of a few that were able to open today and asked what we can expect when we come to work out.

PLANET FITNESS

Touchless check in. Scanning your bar code when you enter may not be new but it's an important touch point that some gyms do not have.

They ask that patrons keep a treadmill or two between you and another person.

All team members will have PPE on at all times. You will see more sanitation stations. They also recommend giving a thumbs up instead of high fives.

EVER FITNESS

They are open regular hours except on the weekends. They require all patrons wear a mask at all times unless doing cardio, during which they can lower it below their nose. They will enforce capacity limits and at this time, no guests, only members. No tanning or showers are available at this time.

WHALING CITY FITNESS

They are open and since they have a different setup than most gyms, they have a few different things in place for our safety. All classes must be booked through their website. This will ensure only limited people in the gym at one time. Every member in each class gets their own equipment to sanitize before and after each workout. Members will also notice tape on the floor indicating their dedicated workout space. Right now, the schedule is limited but it's only day one and they don't want to put anyone at risk. More classes may be added in the weeks to come.
