Yes, You Can Still Ski for Free in New England
More snow is predicted for the weekend forecast, and though it probably won't pile up on the SouthCoast, it should bring some fresh powder to Northern New England.
This is great news for skiers and snowboarders looking to make the most of the winter months. Although making it to the mountains every weekend can certainly add up, there are some spots that save you money.
For those looking to hit the slopes without breaking the bank this winter, it's actually not impossible. In fact, there is still one place in New England where you can ski for free.

Yes, you read that right. Ski for free.

While New England still offers fairly inexpensive skiing at a few spots, one place in particular is known for its free skiing season after season.
Storrs Hill Ski Area — Lebanon, New Hampshire
Storrs Hill has been offering fully free skiing for years, thanks to generous donations from a foundation supporting free community access. They are also one of the oldest running operations in New England, having been founded in 1923.
Adding to Storrs Hill's legacy is the fact that U.S. Olympic skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin once trained there. Long before she became one of the most decorated alpine skiers in history, Shiffrin spent time in 2004 honing her skills on this small New Hampshire hill.
Note the word 'hill' in this ski area's name, however. Storrs is a much smaller ski spot, with seven trails, a terrain park and a long jump facility over its 20 acres. They do offer a variety of lessons and night skiing, but they don't rent skis or boards so everyone must bring their own or rent before they arrive.
Storrs also uses a POMA ski lift, where skiers are pulled uphill by a pole you hold between your legs rather than riding a traditional chair lift. It can be tricky for first timers or snowboarders, but Storrs has ways to practice before actually ascending to the top of the hill.
