Female Police Officer Wins $2.45 Million in Lawsuit
Susan Ledoux's lawsuit alleging sexual harassment by university police and administration officials awarded her $2.45 million.
According to The Herald News, Ledoux says the harassment has been going on since 2003.
Over the course of several years, Ledoux says that Vasco Cordeiro and other male officials treated her poorly just because she is a woman. She claims that Cordeiro also spread a false rumor about her having an affair with Chief Wayne Wood. She claims she was taunted by students would approach her and ask her about it. This lead to Ledoux having a mental breakdown.
The BCC Vice President of Communications, Joyce Brennan, issued a statement continuing the colleges insistent that BCC and staff involved did nothing wrong.
Brennan said “although we respect the jury’s decision, the college continues to deny all allegations related to this matter and will continue to follow the advice and guidance of our legal counsel."
The verdict agreed with the allegations and awarded Susan with $300,000 for emotional distress, $250,000 for punitive damages, and nearly $2 million for lost back pay and benefits.
