Fall River’s Braga Bridge Has Planned Lane Closure This Week
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — The Braga Bridge will be closing a travel lane connecting Somerset to Fall River in the middle of the day for a period of four hours this week.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, they will be closing the right travel lane on Interstate 195 eastbound on the Braga Bridge on Wednesday, June 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The rain date will be Thursday, June 22.
“Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution,” MassDOT said in a release.
The closure is so that MassDOT can perform preliminary survey work on the bridge for upcoming electrical upgrades.
The bridge, which had Phase 1 of a lighting project installed last year, is due to have Phase 2 begin soon. Phase 1 has allowed the bridge to be lit up at night in "Braga blue," or lit in other colors for special events, such as when it was lit in orange in April for National Work Zone Safety Week.
It’s not just the LED lighting added to the bridge, either, but rather a complete overhaul of all of the bridge’s aging wiring.
