
Fall River’s Watson Elementary Wins $20K for Top Attendance
Congratulations are in order for the students at Watson Elementary School in Fall River.
They recently earned a $20,000 grant for their school from Bristol County Savings Bank for having the highest daily attendance rates in the district.
How Watson Elementary Boosted Attendance
Getting kids to attend school each and every day while staying motivated and enthusiastic can be tough for some parents and families, something of which SEL Liaison Jasmine DeBarros took note.
She created the Hall of Streaks, a clever and celebratory way to shine a light on those who were on a good streak of attending school.

It quickly became a motivating factor for many families.
“It’s become something kids don’t want to lose,” Watson Principal Karen Wood said. “Families are finding ways to make sure students get to school every day.”

Why Attendance Matters in Fall River Schools
The success of the program caught the attention of Bristol County Savings Bank. President and CEO John Silva noted the importance of strong attendance and shared their support for students on their path to success.
News of the generous donation was shared in a recent Facebook post from Fall River Public Schools.
"Watson was selected for today’s check presentation because the school has maintained the highest daily attendance rates in the district and is leading the charge in addressing chronic absenteeism," the post read.

How Watson Elementary's $20,000 Grant Will Be Used
Superintendent Dr. Tracy Curley said the donation from Bristol County Savings Bank "will help remove barriers to attendance while supporting student-centered incentives, end-of-year experiences, and engagement activities."
