Former Fall River Mayor Transferred to Pennsylvania Prison
In April of 2022, Correia began serving his six-year sentence after being convicted of 11 counts of fraud, extortion and conspiracy in 2021.
He was found guilty of involvements of defrauding investors, cheating on taxes and extorting marijuana vendors.
According to reports, Correia was briefly staying at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, an administrative detention center for both male and female offenders.
He was then transferred to Philadelphia on Tuesday, November 21.
The Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia mostly holds inmates serving brief sentences, facing pretrials, and being transported to another federal prison.
The reason for Correia's transfer was not released, although there can be many reasons behind it, like disciplinary infractions or protection for the inmates.
Correia is expected to complete his sentence term in 2026.
