Fairhaven Yard Sale This Weekend to Benefit Local Fallen Marine

This weekend is looking like it will be a fantastic weather weekend for some many fun outdoor activities, but one event will help focus on what Memorial Day is really all about.

An amazing group of people that have dedicated themselves to remembering a fallen Marine from Fairhaven will be working this weekend at a yard sale to benefit the LCpl Matthew R. Rodriguez Memorial Foundation. Rodriguez was known as "The Smiling Warrior."

Their website explains that the foundation benefits many graduating seniors at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech and the foundation has actually helped build a playground at the New Bedford Regional Airport.

United States Marine LCpl Matthew Rodriguez, a Fairhaven resident and graduate of GNB Voc-Tech, was a bright and brave young man and Marine who was killed in action on Dec. 11, 2013, at age 19 in Afghanistan.

So while you'll probably be spending plenty of time cooking out and gardening this weekend, don't forget to take a look at what they have to offer at this yard sale, and help remember a great local man who made the ultimate sacrifice.
