SouthCoast Memorial Day Parades to Honor Fallen Heroes
Memorial Day is around the corner, honoring the many lives who have died in war while serving our country.
With events happening all over, Memorial Day is an opportunity to celebrate by visiting friends and family during the three-day holiday weekend. Beaches usually begin opening during this time, giving us a glimpse into the summer season ahead.
As this day of reflection approaches, towns often hold Memorial Day parades and events to honor the lives lost in war. This year, a handful of SouthCoast towns have announced multiple events for anyone to join.
Fall River, in particular, will have week-long celebrations starting on May 17 and ending on May 27.
Friday, May 17: Civil War Monument Ceremony at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Saturday, May 18 to Sunday, May 26: Flagging of the graves at various times and cemeteries. Contact Flags Officer Victor Farias at (774) 451-1190 for dates, times, and locations.
Saturday, May 18: Washing of the Fall River Vietnam Wall at 2 p.m. at Bicentennial Park.
Saturday, May 25: Italian American War Veterans Ceremony at 7 p.m. at Bicentennial Park.
Saturday, May 25: Gold Star Families Candlelight Vigil at 7:45 p.m. at Bicentennial Park.
Sunday, May 26: Polish War Veterans Monument Ceremony, Mass, and breakfast, 8 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish.
Sunday, May 26: Griffin Park Memorial Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Griffin Park.
Sunday, May 26: Rolling Thunder MA Ch. 2 Ride for Freedom and Ceremony, Kick-off at noon. The ride starts at Plainridge Casino and ends at Bicentennial Park, with a ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
Monday, May 27: War on Terrorism Monument Ceremony, 9 a.m. at North Park.
Monday, May 27: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.
