Dartmouth will join the long list of communities on Monday honoring men and women who gave their lives in defending this country. Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Dartmouth will do so with its annual Memorial Day parade, starting at 9 a.m., but the town's tribute to veterans won't end there.

Dartmouth Veterans Agent Matthew Brouillette joined Townsquare Sunday this week to talk about Memorial Day and an upcoming ceremony to honor Korean War veterans and their families.

"We are losing our veterans all the time," Brouillette said. "For the Korean (War) vets, I feel its time, before there are fewer, to honor their service. As you know, for many years, Korea was known as the 'Forgotten War.' It was a terrible two years."

July 27, 2023 will mark the 70th anniversary of the end of hostilities in Korea.

On Thursday, July 27, Korean War veterans, spouses and family members will join members of Dartmouth veterans groups and other invited guests for an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Dartmouth Memorial Grove, off Dartmouth Street.

The ceremony will be followed by a catered lunch at the Maria Conner Center for Active Living, formerly known as the Council on Aging building.

Brouillette is asking that anyone planning to attend to call the COA at (508) 999-4717 or his office at (508) 910-1818 to register.

Townsquare Sunday is a community affairs program heard Sundays on WBSM at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The program highlights individuals and organizations seeking to make Greater New Bedford a better place to live and work.
