She sang to sobbing fans last time she appeared on 'Live With Kelly and Michael,' but this time Demi Lovato skipped the performance and brought a bunch of dish instead!

For her appearance on 'Live' today (Sept. 3), Demi discussed her recent "life-changing" trip to Africa, her great timing with 'Glee' and Simon Cowell's surprising softer side. With her long blond hair hanging loose and wearing a casual and funky black and gray outfit, the singer definitely looked "like a rock star," confirmed co-host Kelly Ripa.

Lovato shared a photo of her 21st birthday trip to Africa last month, calling Kenya her "new favorite place in the whole world." While there, she had helped build a medical clinic for charity organization Free the Children. "We got to experience so much. It was so much more than a vacation or a trip or something," Demi says, before adding with a wide smile, "It was the most life-changing experience I've ever had in my life. I remember thinking on my last day, 'I don't think I want to go back, I really don't.'"

She also credits her joining the cast of 'Glee' to some very fortunate timing surrounding the journey. Luckily, she was able to squeeze in a last-minute meeting with series co-creator Ryan Murphy the day before she left for Africa. Not only that, but the production and her big trip fell into sync beautifully. "They started shooting two days after I got back," Demi reports. "While I was in Africa, contracts were signed and deals were done, and then I land and I go straight to work. It was awesome!"

She may have saved the best for last, though, cracking up 'Live' hosts Ripa and Michael Strahan with her behind-the-scenes scoop on 'X Factor' judging colleague Cowell. "I've seen him cry before," she reveals to the stunned co-hosts. "He got teary-eyed last year [on 'X Factor'] and I think this year as well, but you never know what's going to make the show. He has control in the editing, so most likely you're probably not even going to see it if he did cry."

We'll see what we see on the upcoming season of 'X Factor,' premiering Sept. 11 at 8PM ET on FOX.
