Sometimes, it’s not all about the pizza. Sometimes, it’s about the people that make it.

Barstool Sports head honcho Dave Portnoy stopped by Amazing Pizza on Wharf Street in Salem, and before he even took a bite, the pizza shop received bonus points for its excited owner.

Jacqui Field is the mastermind behind Amazing Pizza. Born and bred in Salem, Field grew up in a home where her mother cooked with only the freshest ingredients and she brought that mentality to her own kitchen.

Her location on Wharf Street is her third location in Salem, and her homemade pizza caught the attention of Portnoy, who has seemingly become bigger than Yelp reviews for local pizza shops in America.

Field was elated that Portnoy walked in.

@stoolpresidenteThe pizza was great regardless but if you don’t want to support pizzeria owners like Jackie at Amazing Pizza in Salem then you have rocks in your brain♬ original sound - Dave Portnoy

“He’s the big pizza man, he’s our man, and he’s going to review us today! I’m so thankful you’re here,” she said to Portnoy.

Field wasn’t shy as she escorted Portnoy straight to the kitchen and showcased her “beautiful pizza.”

“We make our own dough, we use King Arthur flour, san Marzano tomatoes, fresh BelGioioso mozzarella, and fresh BelGioioso provolone,” said Field.

“I already know this was made with so much love that it’s going to blow my face off,” said Portnoy.

After his first bite, he was sold.

“I’m going 8.1,” he proclaimed. “Even though the pizza lives up to it, a lot of times it’s about the people, not just the pizza. If you watch this video and don’t want to support (Field), you got rocks in your head.”

We love it when good things happen to good people.

The Best of South Shore Bar Pizza

There's pizza, and then there's South Shore Bar Pizza. Birthed in Brockton (and to this writer, perfected in Randolph – Lynwood Café is the true G.O.A.T.), it must meet certain qualifications to be considered "SSBP," which include: it's a 10-inch pie; it has a thin, cracker-like crust with minimal "flop;" the cheese is a blend that features more cheddar than mozzarella; and bonus points if you take it home between two carboard-type plates wrapped in flat brown paper bag. They also usually come with "laced" or "burnt" edges (terminology depends on where you are ordering), which is when the sauce and cheese are extended all the way to the edge of the pan, creating a crispy, flavorful coating to the crust. We reached out to the hugely popular South Shore Bar Pizza Social Club Facebook group to ask the experts to share the best of the best (in no particular order).
