A SouthCoast restaurant owner found himself hanging with one of the most recognizable faces in sports media over Super Bowl weekend.

Mario Ribeiro, an owner at Cask and Pig in Dartmouth along with SOCO and Bocca in Fairhaven, said he ran into Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy Friday night while dining at San Francisco’s House of Prime Rib.

How Mario Ribeiro Ran Into Dave Portnoy

Ribeiro said he and his group had an early reservation and were nearly finished when Portnoy walked in with his crew, including former NFL coach Jon Gruden. Portnoy’s table ended up right next to theirs, and Ribeiro said they chatted, took photos and talked for about 15 to 20 minutes before the rest of Portnoy’s party arrived.

Why Portnoy Visiting Fairhaven Would Be a Big Deal

Portnoy is known nationally for his pizza reviews and his signature line "One bite, everyone knows the rules," which has helped turn small shops into viral sensations overnight.

What Portnoy Said About Trying SOCO Pizza

Ribeiro said he told Portnoy about his SouthCoast restaurants and gave him a card. Portnoy told Ribeiro he plans to stop by SOCO Tavern in Fairhaven soon to try the pizza, with Bocca also mentioned as a possible visit. Ribeiro said Portnoy is familiar with the New Bedford area, even if he had not heard of the newer restaurants yet.

What Ribeiro Said About Super Bowl Weekend

Ribeiro attended his first Super Bowl and said his seats were strong, but the crowd felt heavily tilted toward Seattle with Seahawks fans outnumbering Patriots fans five-to-one throughout the stadium.

Even so, Ribeiro called meeting Portnoy a highlight of the trip and said he hopes the promised pizza stop in Fairhaven becomes the next chapter.
