There is a brand new Mother's Day Run launching in South Dartmouth.  The Women Run United Mother's Day 5k is a combined effort from the United Way of Greater New Bedford's Women United and Women Run, a fundraising group that raises money for women's organizations.

"It's a natural collaboration and a natural fit," says Women United Director, Paula Montgomery, who is organizing the event with Women Run.  "The run is open to everyone as a way to show your support of the women in your life and the women here on the SouthCoast."

The Women Run United event will begin and end at the Dartmouth YMCA on Gulf Road.  The run is a 5K that will take runners over the Padanaram Bridge, through the village, then back around over the bridge again, up the Gulf Road hill and back to the YMCA.

While this event is not officially a race (as roads will not be closed down) it will be timed by Racewire.

The registration fee of $40 will help cover the costs of Racewire and a t-shirt.  All of the proceeds from the run will support women's initiatives like early childhood success, literacy and doing work in financial empowerment.  Family four packs cost $100 and can be purchased for any four pack of people.

The last Mother's Day run on the SouthCoast was back in 2019 in Mattapoisett.  That event was called the Women's Fund Tiara 5K.  The Women's Fund told Fun 107 that while they don't have plans for the Tiara 5k this year, it is something they are hoping to bring back in the future.
