Hunger Heroes Food Drop Helps Feed New Bedford Kids
It is hard to think about, but one in three children in New Bedford experiences food insecurity. It is nothing short of a stunning number.
While most kids cannot wait to spend April vacation playing outside in the sunshine, many local children spend that same time worrying about where their next meal will come from. During the school year, they rely on meals provided through school lunch programs. When vacation weeks arrive, that safety net disappears.
Hunger Heroes Food Drop Returns to Help Local Kids
That is why Fun 107, WBSM and the United Way of Greater New Bedford are joining forces once again to organize the Hunger Heroes Food Drop.
We are asking local organizations, businesses and families to donate kid-friendly nonperishable foods that can help children on the SouthCoast during school vacation week.
We are looking for things like granola bars, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, applesauce, mac and cheese, dried fruit, pretzels and trail mix.
Where to Donate Food in Dartmouth
The Hunger Heroes Food Drop will take place outside Aldi at the Dartmouth Mall from 10 a.m. to noon.
To make things even easier, Aldi will create special displays near the front of the store stocked with the items most needed for the food drive. Shoppers can simply grab a few items while they are already in the store and bring them outside to donate.
Our goal is to collect healthy foods that kids actually enjoy eating.
Which Group Will Become Hunger Hero Champions
There is also a friendly competition involved.
The organization or group that brings the largest donation of food items will be crowned the Hunger Hero Champions.
Important Reminder About Food Donations
Before bringing items to donate, please double check the expiration dates.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept any food that is past its expiration date.
We'd like to give a special thanks to Carefree Homes, Aaron Pools and Spas and the restaurants that make up ServedWell Hospitality.
