I never thought I would say this, but social media influenced my Christmas baking this year in perhaps the strangest way possible.

Christmas cookies took over my kitchen over the weekend, leaving behind flour-covered counters, a sink full of dishes, and some seriously trendy treats.

Thanks to the internet's viral "6-7" trend, my kids convinced me to make cookies shaped like sixes and sevens — because apparently this trend needed a holiday edition.

Our Family Christmas Baking Adventure

It all started out in typical cookie making fashion, I gathered my ingredients, put on a Christmas playlist and warmed up the oven. My plan was to make my usual Christmas offerings, a cookie called a Chocolate Crackle, some classic icing covered sugar cookies and quintessential gingerbread men.

Eggs were cracked, ingredients were stirred and as the dough was being rolled out, my youngest daughter came up with her brilliant idea.

How We Ended Up With ‘6-7’ Cookies

With my massive collection of cookie cutters spread out on the kitchen table, her little eyes skipped right over the angels, reindeer, and Santa hat options, landing instead on the number shapes — specifically the sixes and sevens.

That's when she asked if we could make "6-7" cookies for Santa, and honestly how could I possibly deny her that at Christmastime.

Surprisingly, these little sixes and sevens led to hours of me and my daughters laughing and decorating cookies, as well as a little kitchen dances to our favorite holiday hits.

It was an amazing holiday experience and the results speak for themselves.
