Meet the Creator of TikTok’s Viral ‘Puerto Rico Song’
Sometimes, a song completely takes over the internet – and that’s exactly what happened with this catchy tune:
How ‘The Puerto Rico Song’ Went Viral
"The Puerto Rico Song" has been lighting up newsfeeds and taken over social media with everyone from influencers to big-name celebs using it in their videos.
The MGM Show had the chance to speak with William Stiteler, better known as "Saxboy Billy," about his hit song, how it was made and the overwhelming response it has received on social media.
"I started doing travel content, and as I was traveling, I was realizing that something short and digestible to kind of put my thoughts and experiences together about my trips is a little song," Stiteler said.
How Saxboy Billy Creates His Songs
"I realized I'm kind of good at writing lyrics, but my voice wasn't so hot," he admitted. "I discovered this program Suno. It takes my lyrics and then it kind of feeds it into an auto-tuner...and then I've used it to make these like little ditties."
The 80s sitcom/yacht rock vibes of "The Puerto Rico Song" quickly went viral. "The thing with the song is it has a sense of humor. I'm a comedian, right? So it's light-hearted and fun," Stiteler said.

Celebrities Helped Fuel the Viral Trend
It's even caught the attention of celebs like Charlie Puth, O-Town, Luke Combs, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Hyland and more, including my four-year-old daughter.
"That's the thing I didn't see coming was that kids really enjoy it. It's so silly and fun," Stiteler said.
Viral Success Is Opening New Doors
By the sound of his excitement, you can tell the smile hasn't left his face during all the success. He's even had cities reach out to him to boost tourism "I am in talks with Wichita and a couple other places," Stiteler said.
His travels will continue and so will the songs that go along with them.

From TikTok Fame to Radio Airplay
The social media success has been surreal, but playing here on Fun 107 would be a dream for Saxboy Billy.
"If I hear it on the radio that that will be insane," Stiteler said. Lucky for him, he was talking to the right people and I can say it was an honor to debut "The Puerto Rico Song" on The MGM Show.
