Cape Family Pleads For Return of Stolen Memorial
A couple in Mashpee lost their son in the Iraq War nearly ten year ago. Now, a memorial to honor the fallen Marine has been stolen from their yard.
Mark and Karen McGuire don't understand why the life-size silhouette of a kneeling soldier was taken from their yard. They told the Cape Cod Times that the memorial can't possible have meaning to those who took it, but it was important to them. The Gold Star family said they won't judge who ever took the memorial, they just want it returned.
PFC. Daniel McGuire was only 19 when he was killed as the post he was guarding came under enemy fire. The soldier silhouette was placed in the family's front yard as a tribute to their son.
The Time's story says neighbors of the McGuires searched a wooded area near their home for the memorial, but nothing has been found. Mashpee police are also investigating and are asking that anyone with information call them at 508-539-1480.
