A Magical Family Day Trip is Waiting at This Butterfly Sanctuary in Westford
Looking for a magical and interactive experience for the kids? Score some parent points and take a trip to The Butterfly Place in Westford to surround yourself with brightly colored butterflies that freely roam the indoor garden on Tyngsboro Road.
What is the Butterfly Place?
The Butterfly Place is an indoor garden filled with hundreds of freely flying butterflies. New England butterflies and tropical species flutter throughout the garden and offer a unique look into their way of life.
“Observe butterflies sipping from flowers, basking in the sunshine, and flying freely in a natural habitat,” said The Butterfly Place. There are even koi fish and quail birds to interact with, too.
When I was young, I took a trip to this garden, and I was in awe. The number of butterflies is mesmerizing, and I was lucky enough to have one land on my outstretched finger. It’s a magical place for the entire family.
What to Expect
A winding pathway travels the vicinity of the garden as guests observe eggs, caterpillars, and other interesting creatures up close, like koi fish and quail birds.
The garden is kept at a balmy 80-85 degrees to give the butterflies warmth to fly, and the experience typically takes one hour to enjoy.
You can even buy your own butterfly. The gift shop offers a butterfly hatching kit, so kids can hatch and release a live butterfly or moth.
Parking is free, the garden is handicapped accessible, and strollers are welcome. And don’t forget the camera. There will be some serious candid moments as butterflies flutter throughout the garden and, hopefully, land on your shoulder.
