Giant Bamboo Birds Land at Bristol’s Blithewold

Hop in the car and head to Rhode Island for a unique installation on display this summer.

Bristol is now home to six giant bamboo birds. They've nested at Blithewold Manor for the summer season.

Bamboo Birds in Bristol

The giant avian artwork was created by Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein, better know as The Myth Makers.

The large birds stand anywhere from 15 feet to 30 feet tall. Luckily, with a 33-acre property, there's plenty of space to spread their wings (pun intended) on the property.

Prior to installation, The Myth Makers spent two days on the property selecting just the right spots for each bird.

"Each bird is made from bamboo. We have a beautiful stand of bamboo which is a huge draw for visitors and as part of this exhibit there is a hidden surprise inside the Bamboo Grove waiting to delight visitors," said Tree Callanan, Director of Museum Operations and Communications.

The six bamboo birds will be on display at Blithewold in Bristol, Rhode Island through August 11, 2025.

Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission for the Bamboo Birds at Blithewold is included with regular admission.
