Boston Red Sox Game Paused Because of Strange Noise
Not much can stop a Major League Baseball game, but recently an annoying sound had a game between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays on pause.
The game took place at the Ray's temporary home of George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa on Tuesday. The weather was perfect for a Florida day so nothing but some heat and humidity (and the Rays) were in the way of the Sox getting the win.
The game was going along with nothing out of the ordinary as the Sox get an early lead. In the bottom of the second inning, however, something weird happened: a piercing buzzing sound started happening in the stadium at such a loud level that you could hear it through the TV watching at home.
The high-pitched piercing sound was even worse for fans in the stadium as well as the players on the field. It wasn't quite Lloyd Christmas-level annoying, but it was pretty bad.

You can hear the sound in this clip:
As you can hear in the video, the sound was so audible it distracted the umpire, therefore delaying the game.
It's also important to note that for two minutes in the first inning, there were no announcers; just two minutes of crowd noise, but that was something only those of us watching at home noticed. Clearly, the audio engineers were having some technical issues and the piecing sound that was heard was just feedback.
Here is a very boring video of what many viewers are calling baseball "zen."

Thankfully, even an annoying high-pitched sound couldn't stop the Red Sox from getting the 7-4 win, despite the Rays' late-game heroics.
