The popular bar located at 908 Purchase Street is now closed.

New Bedford's “Bar 908”, a heritage Top 40 club on Purchase Street has closed.  Originally called The Jukebox, the bar was very popular New Bedford nightspot for decades.

I was saddened to hear the news.  I met my wife at the Jukebox.  I was broadcasting my Saturday night mix show on the side walk outside the bar when I was a young 20 something DJ on Fun 107.  I spotted her getting out of her car and crossing Middle Street to walk over to the bar.  She walked right up to the guy I was working with that night, Brian Warecki.  I backed off to let the two of them talk.  When they were done, I asked Brian in disbelief, "You KNOW her?"  He said..."KNOW her?  She's my SISTER!"  Brian is now my brother in law.

I'm sorry to see Bar 908 close.  Owner, Tommy Kern, pretty much paid my rent with all of those club gigs back in the day at the Jukebox.  I wish him well.  Southcoast couples will have to find another place to meet.
