After losing Christmas Tree Shops and JoAnn Fabrics, the SouthCoast could soon see another home décor chain pack up and leave their local retail shops.

Business closures are nothing new. These days it seems like another store or restaurant announces that they're going out of business almost every week.

Now it seems that slumping sales and the effect of U.S tariffs might be bringing another home-goods retailer to the brink of bankruptcy.

Late last month Bloomberg News was among the first to report that home-décor chain At Home was preparing to file for bankruptcy under a Chapter 11 reorganization.

Seems the retailer missed their last interest payment due May 15, 2025 and had entered into forbearance with their lenders on May 23, 2025.

All of which means they need to come up with some cash quick and closing stores might be the answer.

Unfortunately for At Home, which operates over 260 stores over 40 U.S. states, much of their home goods inventory comes from China. They have reportedly been trying to shift away from those suppliers since late last year due to tariff concerns, but that doesn't seem to have been accomplished yet.

Now the retailer only has until the end of June to cover past due payments.

For now the bankruptcy is just a rumor, but for those who enjoy shopping At Home décor you'd better shop while you can.
