Acushnet Woman Lands Role as Extra in Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple”
Netflix’s highly anticipated series The Perfect Couple debuts September 5, with much of its filming taking place on Cape Cod and at a stunning mansion in Mattapoisett.
Among the local talent featured in the Nicole Kidman thriller is Sandra Baptista, an Acushnet resident who worked as an extra.
Baptista's journey to the Netflix set was exciting.
"That was awesome," she said, reflecting on the experience.
Baptista, who has been involved with Boston Casting for some time, landed the role through the online platform.
"Boston Casting has gotten me a lot of work doing background and stuff," she said.
On set, Baptista played the role of a housekeeper, one of three alongside the main housekeeper. While the role may seem small, it placed her beside some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
"I got to film with Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, just a lot of really big celebrities," Baptista said.
The movie is based on a book by Massachusetts author Elin Hilderbrand. Netflix describes it this way:
The Perfect Couple follows Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), a bride marrying into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families. Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman), the groom’s mother and a famous novelist, spares no expense on the high-society wedding. But when a dead body appears on the beach, everyone’s Champagne dreams quickly vanish and are replaced by suspicion. As secrets bubble up to the surface, an investigation takes hold that feels plucked from one of Greer’s books. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect.
Baptista has been involved in other significant projects, once working with Liam Neeson, sharing a scene with Tommy Lee Jones in Finestkind, and playing a New Babylon soldier in Walking Dead: Dead City. However, The Perfect Couple stands out as one of her most exciting endeavors.
As for her encounter with Kidman, Baptista described the actress as "very proper, very elegant, exactly what she looks like." Though their interaction was brief, with only a simple greeting exchanged, it left a lasting impression on Baptista.
Baptista believes viewers are in for a treat with The Perfect Couple.
"It's definitely going to be a great show," she said. "It's a thriller. It's a mystery thriller, but it's got its funny moments. It's dramatic. It's just really all the emotions all in one."
Adding to the excitement is the fact that other local faces from the SouthCoast, including retired police officers, also appear in the show. The Perfect Couple is poised to captivate audiences, and for Baptista, being a part of it was an unforgettable experience.
