Movies were a big part of my childhood growing up. Almost every week, my dad and I would head to Showcase Cinemas, get an extra-large popcorn, a Blue Icee, and seek out the seats that were dead center in the theater for the coming attraction. My VHS collection was vast, equipped with every Disney Princess movie you could imagine, and as I got older, the collection went from cartoon VHS tapes to PG-13 movies on DVD.

I love everything about movies, and my love began at a young age – but I guess my fiancé had a different childhood. He spent most of his weekends traveling to karate tournaments. So while he was competing for medals, I was soaking up the latest in pop culture.

However, there are just some movies that everyone has seen, almost like an unspoken requirement of the American Way. Movies like The Breakfast Club and The Goonies are cult classics, and anyone would be shocked to hear of a person that hasn’t watched them at least once.

But since I was born in the '90s, that’s where my specialty lies. I had a conversation with a friend a few days ago about how great the movies from our childhood were. The ’90s ushered in countless teen movies, animation improvements, timeless love stories, and cult-classic horror films, and there are so many films from my younger years that fit the bill of “required viewing.” I managed to narrow down the list, and here are the top 10 films of my generation.
