
World Series Champs Have Ties to Newport and Cape Cod
The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again World Series champions. The team fought a hard battle against the Toronto Blue Jays in a postseason that extended all the way into November.
The final series went back and forth as both teams secured three wins, forcing a Game 7 to be played on Saturday, November 1.
Dodgers Win Game 7 Thriller
It was on that day that Dodgers catcher Will Smith crushed a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the team up 5-4 as the Dodgers held on to win the World Series.

Smith, a 30-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, and teammate Tommy Edman, a second baseman out of Pontiac, Michigan, have been playing together for years, including right here in New England.

Cape League and Other Connections to New England
The two stars played for the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Newport Gulls, a collegiate summer baseball team in Newport, Rhode Island.

Newport Gulls Celebrate Their Alumni
The Newport team praised its former Gulls on its Facebook page, congratulating Smith and Edman on their standout season.
In 2014, the Newport Gulls won the league championship with Smith and Edman on the roster. Edman was also named an All-Star and was named Best Defensive Player.
From there, the two brought their talents to the Cape League. Smith played for the Brewster White Caps and Edman suited up for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
