There are a lot of great pizza restaurants here on the Southcoast. But while in Phoenix, AZ., I tried one that is very very different.  It's a chain called MOD Pizza, and according to msn.com, it's one of the fastest growing chains in America. The website says that MOD opened over 100 new locations in 2017.

MOD Pizza's claim to fame is that they serve custom pizzas and salads, made to order, fast. When you walk into a MOD Pizza store, you'll see a menu of their top pizza combinations. You can choose from 30 toppings, and each is priced the same. The pizzas also have names like "Mad Dog," "Lucy Sunshine," and "Dillon James." I'm not sure why, but it seems to be working for them. The pizza is good and was ready in about 10 minutes from the time of ordering.

The store I visited was also blasting songs by David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, and other British acts.

The pizza chain has a total of over 300 locations, and according to the MSN story, they plan are adding many more. They were founded in Seattle about 10 years ago by one of the persons who started Starbucks.

There are currently no MOD Pizza restaurants here in Massachusetts.  As a matter of fact, the nearest location is in New Jersey. But since the company added over 100 locations last year alone, don't be surprised if you see a MOD Pizza pop up here on the Southcoast before the end of this year.
