I'm a sucker for corn on the cob, and it doesn't get any better than end-of-summer butter-and-sugar corn on the cob. It's especially good when it is grown locally on one of the many farms here on the SouthCoast.

It's funny. The very best corn I've ever eaten locally used to come from the back of a truck parked behind what used to be Shaw's in Fairhaven. I mean, how shady is that?  Buying corn out of the back of some random truck parked on the side of the road. I'm telling you, it was delicious.

I'm not sure what happened to that truck, but it didn't show up one season a few years ago, and it hasn't been back since. I've heard rumblings that the corn was from Cervelli's Farm in Rochester. I've since visited Cervelli's and the corn was fantastic.

There's a farm stand not far from my house that we frequent quite a bit. We buy corn, broccoli and other veggies from it. There's something about buying local vegetables.  I'm not sure if there's a psychological component to it, but the vegetables that come from these tiny farm stands on the side of the road seem to taste so much better.

We've begun to stop at different farm stand locations across the SouthCoast and have really enjoyed trying the fresh produce. They range from established farms such as Silverbrook to rickety homemade stands in front of people's homes.

Here are some of the more popular farm stands across the SouthCoast. Let us know if there are any that we missed. If you send us a photo of your favorite neighborhood farm stand we may include it.
